Two-thousand-and-six started with a wimper. I quit my job at The Company in middle state New York. My boss didn’t quite understand why I was quitting, or even (I imagine) what is was that I did. I had wonderful going away parties both with my workmates and with my friends. My friends I knew I would miss in particular.
From my old home in Beacon, New York I drove to Salt Lake City where I stayed with at my mum’s palatial condo. I had two sets of visitors: Brad and Sherry and e and her husband. We did some pretty awesome skiing.
I sold my car and flew to Sydney in March to live. I hadn’t lived in Sydney since we moved to the states in 1980. It was a pretty radical move, but it was the right time in my life to do it.
Getting started in a new country was tricky, made a bit trickier by the fact that I was sort of half in the system on account of being a citizen, but also half out of the system on account of never having lived there as an adult. Somehow, I managed to find myself a flat and a job in close proximity. The job at Company 2 is only okay, but living in Sydney is fantastic.
In December I took a month off for vacation. I visited my dad and my siblings in Canberra for a few days. My little brother Tristan 賢 asked me questions about computers that I was actually able to answer pretty well. It’s cool having younger siblings. Then I had Christmas with mum and Don and Aunty rae, cousin Gary and his kids came over for boxing day. Gary lives in London so we don’t see them much.
Then my friends Joe, Cicely and Brian came out for New Years Eve. Somehow Joe managed to snag tickets on a boat that was in the “parade” which meant that we had the best view of the fireworks possible. It looked like the entire city was in fire it was so amazing! My friends from the states were blown away.
So the year ended with a bang.
( review of the year in pictures )(oh, and also Optimus Prime returned from the dead, so hooray for that!)
