I Love Problems Which Are Not Mine
Apr. 29th, 2005 11:33 amJeff wants me to come into Tim's office because there is a crash in IJMabstractParallelCalc::insertSelf(), a function that I wrote. I thought he meant Tim S., but actually it was the new guy Tim O. It took us about five minutes to confirm that it had nothing to do with insertSelf(), and that a memory debugger would probably have to be used to find out who is corrupting memory. Tim O. had this new-guy look on his face like "I don't know wtf is going on" and Jeff had this look on his entire body which said "I have no idea of what a nerd I am".
I had this friend in high school - named Nathan - who was the very definition of a nerd. Look up nerd in the dictionary and you will see an illustration of Nathan. A camp counselor I had one summer in Chicago gave me a song/video that he had made called "nerd" which gUe and I dubbed the Nathan theme song. I have to admit though, Jeff has even Nathan beat for pure unadulterated poor social skills.
Jeff was whining about how long the memory debug was going to take. I said "well, the sooner you start it, the sooner it will be finished." The important thing, from my perspective is that whatever the problem is, it is not in my code and now Tim O. and Jeff have to figure it out. For once a problem which shouldn't really be mine, isn't.
