Ogg Vorbis is a patent free alternative to mp3. To get iTunes to play Ogg Vorbis, you will need to install a special component. You can download the component from

qtcomponents.sourceforge.net

Or, you can download the component directly from me:

Mac Version
Windows Version

For Mac version, what I did was
  1. open the .dmp file
  2. double click on my hard drive
  3. click on HOME in the toolbar
  4. open the directory "Library"
  5. create a new directory "QuickTime" if it does not already exist
  6. drag the OggVorbis.component file into the new QuickTime folder you just created.
  7. restart iTunes

For the Windows version, what I did was
  1. unzip the .zip file
  2. copied the oggvorbis.qtx file into D:\WINNT\SYSTEN32\QUICKTIME (for most people this will be C:\WINNT\... or C:\WINDOWS)
  3. restart iTunes
(will be screened)
