Man I keep hearing about the pope. There is no escaping it. I don't get it. He's just some old fart who is like "don't use condoms they are bad" and everyone is so "oh my gosh he's dead."

I NO RITE!!?

ok so. i'm really anti-church in the fact that 99% of the ideals that go with it realy piss me off (not just the pope, you know, because it's not his PERSONAL agenda but rather the agenda of the church so i can't blame it on him right?) but i'm still a little bit sad that he croaked. mostly, i guess, aside from the crap ideals that i mentioned before and that we're all aware of, he did lots of positive things as well, and i guess he was a pretty decent pope as far as popes go. i dunno. it's weird and i can't explain it but i AM a little sad somehow even though i'd rather stab myself in the face than listen to more ONGOING COVERAGE OF THE DEATH OF THE POPE i mean come ON he's dead how much is there to cover really? that and i'm catholic by default and went to catholic school for many years and even though i don't buy that shit for a second, it works its way deep into one's psyche.

It is a good point you bring up, the idea of separating personal and church agenda.

My grandparents were Church of England, but my parents are decidedly atheist (especially my father), so maybe it is a little too easy (little to comfortable) to think of the pope as a symbol and not a person.

speaking of ongoing coverage, i was really upset that in the break room at work today, they talked about the pope for about 15 min straight, and iraq got a little thirty second spot.

granted, this was faux news, but still...

Where I am at work they have these telescreens all over the factory. They rotate between faux news, msnbc and cnn. I can’t stand having to listen to the TV even for that short period of time that I am passing in the hallway.

the tv in our break room "only gets news channels," (so says the sign taped to it) and "can not be changed without the remote," (which we peons do not have access to), so the majority of the time it is all fox, all the time. i was actually shocked the other day when they had it on cnn.
