Today it looked like enough snow had melted so as to make a hike up Breakneck rather pleasant, so that was what I planed to do. I had wanted to go photograph this semi-ruin which is just off the trail about three quarters the way up to the flag. You can't even see it during the summer the foliage is so thick, so this seemed like a good time to attempt that. I took a few pictures of that and some other decay and posted the results in the LJ community rural_ruin just for grins and giggles. (also posted them to my journal here)

I also took some other pictures on the hike, which didn't really fit in that post:

Snow was melting like crazy. There was lots of runoff.

I'm sort of ambivalent at best about flags, but it is always nice to get to this point of Breakneck Ridge. It's the first nice view of the trail and I get a sense of satisfaction standing dramatically by the edge with the flag fluttering in the breeze behind me. Somebody or somebodys are extremely conscientious about replacing the flag when it gets worn, which happens frequently.

If you click on this image to get the bigger version, you can just make out the flag above at the place where the end of the mountain meets the Hudson River.

This is my favorite tree in the Hudson Valley. I'm not sure why.

The snow had mostly cleared out, giving way to spring. On the shady side of the mountain there was some resistance holding out.

Needless to say, I was feeling very good after doing the hike.
