ljpliceaseMost people get headaches when they go off caffeine. I'm the opposite apparently. One bottle of Dr Pepper and my head is pounding hours later. I think I will go off again, it's just not worth it.
So today, in the team meeting Jeff P [1] is talking about how he is starting to parallelize VAT [2] and how he is running into some static variables which are causing problems. Now, I just finished about nine months of work parallelizing Abstraction; so I am sitting there thinking that Jeff P here is sounding exactly like me nine months ago, and I think to myself: "Jeff, you have no idea what you have ahead of you."
Then later I am back in Adil's office, relating the thoughts that were going through my head in the meeting and the two of us are laughing our asses off. "And he asked for this too" I said, punctuating the hilarity of it all. Because he did, he actually asked to make his life miserable by working on this.
And then Adil is all like: "and Tom [3] is all like 'I'm not stepping on your toes or anything am I? I hope I'm not intruding in your territory by letting Jeff (P) work on this?'" More laughter.
Man, I haven't laughed like that for ages. I really haven't. It was kind of a bonding moment to, for the two of us.

[2] You don't really care that this stands for Variation Aware Timing.
[3] Our manager.
