If a semicolon is only half a colon, why does it have more parts?

how does it have more parts? both have two, yes?

also, i think the semicolon has lots more power than the colon. it unites two clauses, where a colon just prefaces lists and blurbs, occasionally leading to something more interesting.

You have a point. Semicolons have a tail though. I have been using a whole lot more of them since reading Eats, Shoots & Leaves.

the presence of the semicolon's tail gives the semicolon more mass than the colon has.

having more mass, it can be said to be more massive.

"semi" trucks (e.g. Optimus Prime in vehicle form) are also massive.

trucks are larger than colons. this holds true whether you're comparing them to the punctuative or the biological variety.

"punctuative" is a word i had to look up to confirm that i was using it correctly.

THEREFORE:

i'm going to bed.

Tyler, my friend, that is awesome. I think I am going to have to print that out and post it on my door. I miss being a mathematician sometimes.
