Sunday we went to meet Kathy and her family at the house as they were in the DC area for Turkey Day. Didn't take my car because I had a flat tire! Fortunate that we had Lena's car otherwise we'd probably have missed them. Before work this morning I went to Tires of Silver Spring based on the reviews, rather than the million times I have walked driven past it in the two years that I have lived here (I am so observent). It was dirty and dingy as you might expect a non-corporate tire service place to be, but they were quick, inexpensive and my car is driving well now that the nail has been removed and the tire repaired.

As I was paying the guy in the office gave me a candy cane and wished me a “Merry Christmas or whatever you celebrate”.

I replied: “Oh, I celebrate everything”.

“Oh good, they are trying to get rid of Christmas.”

I am not quite sure what it is about some Christians that make them feel persecuted in this country. Still I was happy with the work, the price and the fact that I didn't get into work late, so I'd count this story as an endorsement with commentary rather than strong criticism.

I was accosted by “Cyber Monday” stories on /. and NPR today. Well, the /. story was a thinly veiled advertisement but then /. is retarded. My only Cyber Monday purchase was the tire repair and lunch. I feel like if you are spending money just to save money you are probably buying stuff that you don't really need or want and so aren't really saving. Your mileage may vary and some people just enjoy the shopping thing so I can see there is more ways to look at it.
