tale of two monitors
Feb. 18th, 2011 12:34 pmFor weeks now this lady has been coming around looking at the property numbers on the computers in my cube. I'm not sure why, but it has something to do with my predecessor's computer that is sitting idle and taking up space. The property numbers aren't changing. They are what you would call “static”. My manager gets the brilliant idea to give me the idle monitor, since I only have one. He tells me that I can have it and tells me it is okay to set it up myself. We're not supposed to plug or unplug anything (as a software person I guess I am unqualified to work with hardware) though so I definitely did not do that. It must have happened spontaneously, but for a few brief minutes before I left work on Wednesday I had dual head goodness. Yesterday I was gone because the movers were busy being late. I come in today and there is a note on the extra monitor to call the property lady ASAP. Apparently she inadvertently gave my manager permission to give me the monitor, but she has to check with the Department of Wasting Everyone's Time first or something. I am a little hazy on the details. Not that I would then unplug the monitor, because I am not qualified to do that (remember?), but it happened spontaneously, so I am back to one monitor on my computer and one idle monitor sitting right next to it. Your government at work.
