Today I went to Darling Harbour to shoot a test roll of 220 with my new backup Hassey body.
Actually I got two Hasseys in the FedEx today, one is a 1975 Hasselbland 500C/M and the other is a 1968 Hasselblad 500C. I was able to date them by the serial numbers. The one that I have that needs servicing is a 1986 Hasselblad 500C/M. They were conservatively graded; the 500C is in amazing condition, whereas the 500C/M is amazing condition with slight signs of use. They were both a fraction of the price of a new Hasselblad body.
I actually tried to source a backup body locally, but the only place I could find here that definitely had used 500C/M bodies, would only sell them as complete outfits (ie, with a lens, film back and fancy metered prism and such, which I don’t need). It’s frustrating that photo dealers and labs here are really expensive and they really do not go out of their way to help you out. I do try to get stuff locally sometimes, but it is almost always cheaper to order it from New York (either B&H or Aorama) and have it shipped here, even when you factor in express shipping.
After I finished my test roll of 220 I took the train up to St. Leonards to pick up and drop off some film. Apparently the prices on their website do not match the actual prices, like all professional photo labs. I got the three rolls of 35mm that I shot on Australia Day back, but I’m waiting until I go back to Wyoming next week where I have a light box to look at them in detail. They are mostly documentary. I actually think my test roll of Darling Harbour will be more interesting.
On the train home, this couple was kissing and slobbering all over each other and taking up about six seats with their bags. I am indifferent to casual PDA, but if it is something that gets my goat, then it’s getting in the way or taking up more space than necessary in a crowded train. Then when I stood up as we were arriving at Town Hall station the dude was like “hey we need to get out” and I felt like saying “everyone needs to get out here.” I don’t miss commuting.
