Yikes! I have to vote tomorrow and I have no idea who to vote for, or even who is going to be on the ballet, aside from my current state MP. He is part of the opposition conservative Liberal party and it is apparently a marginal seat, meaning it’s a bit like I live in Ohio (except not as flat, and the beach is not as far away), so the vote might have an actual impact. There were no less than three helpful posts to sydneysiders today with useful information on finding out how and where to vote, but I am still confused. I felt like I was much better informed about the issues and candidates when I was living in New York.

LOL I always have to defend myself why I haven't voted when I go back to Oz. 'I was overseas, duh, you guys have computers!'

If you don't mind me asking: How did you get citizenship here? Were you born in Australia or were you naturalized here? Do you have Polish citizenship as well?

I was born in Poland, got citizenship after two years in Oz, and now have dual.

I never voted in Australian elections when I lived in America. I am pretty sure you can vote by mail, but it isn't compulsory if you are overseas, and I hadn't ever lived here as an adult. I was reading that one country had allowed people to vote over the Internet, but I can't remember which one it was. There is one state in the US, Oregon, I think, where everyone votes by mail.

They take you off the voting register if you're away from Australia for 12 months or more. Well, that's what I read on some Oz government site. :S I'm so off it. :o
