I just had the most retarded meeting ever. This is actually an accomplishment, as all our meetings are fairly retarded. My manager spent the hour talking about expense accounts, and security. It's amazing how cumbersome something can become when upper management works at making the bureaucracy impenetrable; this appears to be their job.

I've never gone on business travel and I have never had to expense something while working at The Company. The only time I did have to expense something it was when I worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory and I asked my boss if we could have another camel for the office. My boss told me to go to R'Books and use the department charge code. When I got there, I didn't have to provide any proof that I had the authorization to use that charge code either.

I suppose that was before all the procurement scandals though. Things would be different now.

our former ceo got busted for all sorts of embezzlement, etc, so we all got to have "ethics training." we had to discuss scenarios about expense accts, etc, when my job would never in a thousand years involve putting ANYTHING on one. but, it was a great 30 min away from my desk and i got automatic 100% compliance for the day. that was cool.

You know, it’s funny that you bring that up, because your situation is frighteningly similar. I was sitting there listening to my manager and occurred to me that all the examples he was giving had to do with things that he, as a manager, would have to do and that we, as non-managers, would never have anything to do with. I guess what irritated me is that he couldn’t get outside his head long enough to talk about how the whole thing applied to us. I think there is a basic disconnect between my manager and reality; probably management in general and reality.
