when dreaming of the southwest

I've been watching through Breaking Bad well beyond the time when most people discovered it. I can see why people thought it was good, I don't think it as good as they say. Probably because people talked it up before I saw it, but also because Walter White reminds me of every asshole teacher I had in high school. (Although not the non-asshole teachers, of which, to be sure, there were plenty). Anyway, not to review something which you have probably already made up your mind about, or you can probably find much better nuanced professionally written review. The thing I thought was interesting, when I was reading about the show is that the creators were first going to set the series in Southern California. Because. Well. Everything on TV happens in either Southern California or New York right? New Mexico gave the producers a tax credit, which they took, but when they realized the mountains were going to be in every shot, they decided to bite the bullet and just set it in Albuquerque. And that is actually probably the thing I like about the show the most, it is legit set in New Mexico. (Though not the best part which is Northern New Mexico). Most of the time I think these tax breaks they give studios for doing their filming in various states is a total waste of money. Sure you get some temporary jobs, but a lot of the talent comes from and returns to out-of-state, along with the fattest paychecks. Usually those stories which are being committed to film are set somewhere else entirely. So I can support this tax credit, (although only as a former New Mexico tax payer), since the thing created is legit New Mexican to a degree.
