turkey day
Nov. 26th, 2012 05:50 amWe didn't have turkey for Turkey Day, instead opting for rack of lamb (which I prefer). We didn't fly anywhere or drive anywhere either. I used to fly back home for every Turkey Day when I was in college and lonely. I'm so over that. The busy airports and full aeroplane I mean. I know Lena would like to have Turkey Day with a larger group of friends and family, so it will be interesting to see how next year will turn out. Friday I worked since it isn't a holiday for us, and I'm saving vacation for Christmas/New Years/China (planning on a China tour in May). Days like that are nice because the office is so quiet. More packing on the weekend.
We went to the Best Buy Saturday looking for a Rayman game that Lena had been wanting to get for her 3DS. That was out of stock, but they had Wii U in stock, so I picked up the Deluxe version. This was sort of an accident, as I planning on getting one, but decided to put it off since they are asking about $100 more than the suggested retail price on-line. I incorrectly assumed this would mean it would be hard to get by just showing up at stores the old fashion way but there you go. The Wii U is backwards compatible with the Wii, in the sense that you can press a button and go to the Wii menu, in effect disabling all of the Wii U features like the new controller and such. It seems like they could have integrated the existing downloadable content and virtual console games into the Wii U system. Instead it seems like a tacit admission that they are embarrassed about the Wii and are doing the bare minimum to retain the existing user base. Nintendo is struggling to remain relevant, and I feel like this could be their last console. They are trying to build a social network around the games on the console, but it feels too much like walled garden AOL experience.
After getting the Wii U but before playing it, we bought a bed. We agreed on a King Size, which the tape measure tells me should fit in our bedroom. They manager really wanted to have it delivered earlier, but well you know with the unfinished floors and the paint and all... no. Also apparently our mattress is like the iPhone of beds.
Back to work on Monday.
