Saw Transformers 2 finally. I disliked it much less than the first one, which is funny because it had much worse reviews. The main problem, although there were many, is that it was too long. I loved hearing Peter Cullen play Optimus Prime and Frank Welker as Soundwave. I am a sucker for their interpretations of those characters. It's sad though that the dialog from the original 1985 film is so much better. I even liked Jetfire, even though he was nothing like the original. Jetfire was one of the better developed characters. Starscream who is probably my favourite transformer was totally under utilised again, no surprise there. I would love to see a reboot with Simon Furman doing the writing. Even back in the day when Transformers were great, I think he was one of the few who really understood the potential of the characters. I know most people who go see these things are in it for the giant fighting robots, but I like the characters. Every comment I have heard Bay make about the coolest parts of the original Transformers (like Soundwave or the Dinobots) have been him saying how dumb or unrealistic it is. Why would you hire someone who hates Transformers to make a Transformers film?
PS is it just me or did the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) sink in one scene only to launch fighters a few minutes later? What's up with that?
