So I am dead tired after the hike last night and fall asleep at like 9 almost immediately after setting my head on the pillow. Wake up at like 3 in the morning and I'm like... I really should check up on my EinsTimer run. It is probably sitting there with the AIX equivalent of "Are you sure you want to continue debugging? YES | NO". Boot up the notebook, get into VNC (sort of like remote desktop). Sure enough xldb is sitting there waiting for me to tell it to go ahead and get its act together. I click on "continue" a couple of times. It finally gets to the timing part and forks to run in parallel. Then a few minutes later

Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0xd674)!

which is this error message I get when the debugger spontaneously decides to crash. It is very mysterious. Anyway, this is my gripe: how can they expect us to debug our code if the debugger is BUGGY?

Update: by the way I am SLEEPING IN DAMN IT today

Here are some more pictures I took on that same rainy day that I wondered through the graveyard with my camera.

Today my iPod chose for me to listen to:

What rolls down stairs alone or in pairs
Rolls over your neighbor's dog?
What's great for a snack and fits on your back?
It's Log, Log, Log!

It's Log, Log, it's big, it's heavy, it's wood.
It's Log, Log, it's better than bad, it's good!
Everyone wants a log! You're gonna love it, Log!
Come on and get your log! Everyone needs a Log!

The Log Song

and I did so obediently.

So the furor over Parallel Abstraction has sort of died down; I can now get back to doing the simple things in life like making reports come out right.

I'm making the posole for the party on Saturday as I type this. I'm not making as much as I usually do, but there is still going to be leftovers, I am sure. Brad said that he would make guacamole, so at least there is that.

I went up to On Location today to get my slides from this weekend's shoot. One or two of these are going to be used in a real project, so please take a look at them and tell me which ones you think are good, or at least less hideous than the rest. These are test scans, so they are low res, I haven't done any spotting and only minimal color correction (for some reason they scanned with a little more red than what is in the actual slide), so just assume that the final images will be of higher quality.

Damn, I made the posole waaaay too hot. That will please Brad (and myself) but I am going to need to find a way to make it edible for everyone else.

Every now and then I think of something stupid that I have said in the past. Probably whoever I was speaking to didn't think it was offensive or memorable and has totally forgotten, or just as likely I will never see the person again, or possible I shouldn't care about what they think, and in fact if they were the type to hold it against them they probably aren't the sort of people that I want as friends anyway. Regardless I am racked by this horrible feeling that I said something stupid. This can happen months or years after the fact damn it. It's silly. Sometimes it is preemptive and prevents me from speaking up.

So.

I have decided that every time I am overcome with this feeling, I am going to intentionally say something randomly stupid, until I have banished this horrible habit for good.

I feel stupid for having even typed this. So here goes: Fraggle Rock was the awesomest show on TV ever.

I feel better already.
