war for cybertron
Aug. 7th, 2011 12:52 pmSo I realize now I have been going about this whole thing the wrong way. I detested the Micheal Bay Transformer movies, not entirely because they were terrible (which they were), but because of the disrespect they showed for the characters (not to mention the audience). When I was in LA, Tyler showed me War for Cybertron (WfC), a Transformer game for PS3, Xbox and PC which I had heard terrific things about, but had never played myself because I haven't been into PC gaming for years, and I don't have a PS3 (due to the whole Sony intentionally infecting one of their audio CDs with malware) or an Xbox (due to the whole Microsoft thing[1]). The worst things that I hate about the Bay movies are what I love about WfC. The characters in WfC remind me of the characters that I know and love from my childhood. Tyler had mentioned to me a while back that that the boss battle with Soundwave and the tapes was exactly like it should be, and when I finally got to that point I have to say I totally agree. My favourite part so far though was the final boss fight in the Decepticon campaign with Omega Supreme[2] which was epic, and awesome, and exactly how it should have been. When the Bay scripts borrow lines it made be cringe, but when they do it in WfC it sounds awesome, because the makers of the game get the characters and they get the franchise. They didn't have to be coerced by Steven Spielberg into making a Transformers entertainment product, they clearly like Transformers themselves. So I shouldn't have got all worked up about the movies, they will be forgotten in a few years, I should just enjoy the awesomeness of the awesome stuff. Hasbro seems to understand many of their fans do not like the Bay movies, and they are making stuff for those people too[3]. My only complaint about WfC so far is that there was only one mission where you could play as Starscream, my favourite Transformer. They did make up for it by giving him a big role in the story, and by playing him in exactly the way that he ought to act.
- I have to say though, I am warming to the idea of one day owning an Xbox. It is hard to really hold Microsoft accountable for all the ills of computing that they have caused when they really aren't the big player they used to be.
- Omega with sour cream, for those who are not in the know.
- While at the same time raking it in on the Bay movies, which despite everyone saying were terrible clearly have won in the marketplace. I understand that everyone has to make a living and I can't fault them for that.
